My mission is to help more people live richer lives. I repeat this phrase over and over to anyone and everyone who will listen. I share it at networking events. I use it when introducing myself to someone, or to a social group. I use it so often because, at this point in my life, this is what really animates me.
You see, I have a vision of a better future in which more and more people are pursuing purpose by helping others learn, grow and thrive. Their many contributions of time, talent and treasure help so many others get the assistance they need to live a better life and to also become contributors helping others as well. I envision all of us coming together to create a better, more generous and prosperous society. What a world that will be.
You might read this and think of a few ways that people might do this. In fact, the ways of doing this are unlimited, as vast as the number of people who might pursue this course. That is the genius of this concept – that there are countless ways of creating this future, with no limit to the number of people who may participate nor the ideas for making it a reality.
But, there is one common element that ties it all together: GIVING. For it is the act of giving our time, our talents, and our treasure to help others that creates this better world. Every single way of achieving this, raising and educating a child, mentoring a student, solving a complex and important problem, leading a business or a movement, and even providing the resources for an organization to address a human need are all acts of giving. With this giving, we are in so many ways helping others learn, grow, and thrive. This giving improves the human condition, creates more personal success, and generates more opportunity for ever more people to give to still others.
This giving accomplishes one more important thing: it greatly benefits the giver. The generous are happier, healthier, and live longer than those who don’t give. It makes each contributor feel good in so many ways. What an incredibly powerful act. The product of giving is the creation of a better world and a more fulfilled giver. I believe each of us who adopts this way of life is most definitely living a richer life.
Not everyone has yet adopted this way of life, and it is my mission to share this message and opportunity with all who are open to the creation of a better world. It is what animates the new Success with Purpose Community and I hope to find new ways to share this message and multiply the community’s impact.
Gandhi said “The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems.” I plan on devoting the rest of my life to shrinking this difference, promoting giving, and realizing my vision of a better future.
